Vegas Gets Ready for 2014 World Cup Sports Betting Action
Vegas bookies are counting down the days to the opening whistle of the World Cup 2014 event in Brazil this year, building on the growing interest among US bettors on football – or soccer as its known in the States. While nothing can yet compare to the betting action on home-grown sports such as National Football League and NBA games, Vegas bookmakers are positive that the World Cup will generate ample interest to see them turn a tidy profit.
William Hill US executive, Adam Pullen is optimistic about the revenues that will be generated ahead of and during the Brazil World Cup. “The handle should just go through the roof, bigger than any World Cup ever as far as betting goes,” he said enthusiastically.
Calvin Ayre points out that it will be difficult to determine the handle for the World Cup as the Nevada Gaming Board does not place European soccer in a standalone category (as it does basketball or baseball for example). Instead soccer is lumped under the “others” category with other less popular sports.
“But make no mistake,” says CalvinAyre.com. “The interest in the sport itself compounded by the increased coverage from sports networks like ESPN is generating more and more interest from casual sports fans these days, many of whom probably don’t even remember who won the 2006 World Cup. ” It is believed that with access to the sport now more readily available, the game is becoming more attractive to the American audience, and this will prove to be a boon to Vegas bookmakers as they prepare for the betting onslaught ahead of July 2014.
Team USA will be playing on the fields of Brazil during the hottest tournament of the summer, and American fans will no doubt want to back them by betting on their success.
