Rory McIlroy Ranked #1 in Golf

PGA TOUR golf professional Rory McIlory took over the #1 ranking in the world of golf last week with a win at the 2012 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Rory was the second youngest player ever to hold the #1 golf ranking spot in the world, Tiger Woods being the youngest.

For those who watched last week’s PGA TOUR golf tournament, the Honda Classic at PGA National, it was a thrilling day of golf. Tiger Woods made an early charge, shooting a career low Sunday round of 62, to post a -10, 72-hole score. Rory easily could have collapsed at any point after Tiger eagled the 18th hole to post that 10 under score, but instead McIlory charged his way to victory with a 2 shot winning. Rory pared the last hole to shoot a -12, 72-hole score, winning a $1,260,000 pay check. But, more importantly, to take over the #1 golf ranking of Luke Donald.

Rory McIlory has an extremely bright future ahead of him, as most serious golfers know, and I would predict him winning 6 Major Golf Championships before his career is over. Six Majors might not sound like a lot, but that is probably equivalent to 12 Major Championships in the Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer area since it’s so darn competitive now on the PGA TOUR and almost any player out there can win at any moment.

For fun, I thought I would post the betting odds for Rory at this year Masters in April, along with the other top 4 golfers with the best odds. Rory is currently the second favorite to win, behind Tiger Woods, at it would be tough to bet against either one of those great players.

BetOnline.com betting odds for the 2012 Masters:
