NHL Winger Penner Gets Ride Home After Twitter Request
National Hockey League winger, Dustin Penner, managed to get a ride home with a fan from the store on Friday night, after sending out an SOS on Twitter that he was stranded with his groceries and had no way to get home. The 31 year old was recently traded to the Washington Capitals from the Anaheim Ducks and was trying to settle into his new home by purchasing produce ahead of the weekend.
Turning to the social media platform, Penner put out an enticing tweet, offering anybody who came to give him a ride and helped bring the groceries into his new place, tickets to his debut game. “Want 2 tickets to my first @washcaps home game? Come pick me up at the grocery store & help me bring my bags into my new place tonight,” read the Tweet.
Penner was in luck as a self-proclaimed hockey nut, Emilio Delgado, picked up the distress call and ran to the rescue. Posing together with Delgado, Penner tweeted: “Thanks @emilio_delgado aka Emillllliioooo for the lift.” True to his word, Penner also provided Delgado with two tickets to his opening game with the Washington Caps, pictures of which, quite naturally, were also posted by an excited Delgado.
Last June, Dustin Penner was signed by the Anaheim Ducks but was recently traded to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Penner has not taken the trade in his stride, considering that he was moved from a team with the NHL’s best record to a “Washington club that is battling for the final wild-card spot in the East”, according to NESN.com.
Penner has scored 13 goals and 19 assists this season.
