Catholics Angry after Tennis Star’s Nude Photo Shoot

Wimbledon women’s semi-finalist Agnieszka Radwanska has managed to irk religious groups in her native Poland after appearing what appears to be nude on the front cover of ESPN Magazine’s Body Issue.

The lovely brunette, who is ranked 4 in the world after she lost to Sabine Lasicki at Wimbledon, has been dropped from the campaigns which she headed for the Polish Catholic youth group Krucjata Mlodych (Youth Crusade).  The 24 year old recently appeared in marketing campaigns for the group, where she spelled out the name ‘Jesus’ with tennis balls and told viewers that they should not be afraid of their faith. Over 90% of the Polish population identify themselves as Catholics.

A Senior Catholic priest Father Marek Dziewiecki noted about the incident: “It’s a shame that someone who has declared their love for Jesus is now promoting the mentality of men looking at a woman as a thing rather than a child of God worthy of respect and love. ‘If she meets a man who she can truly love and establish a happy family and raise Catholic children, then she would probably have to hide these pictures from relatives.”

The interview in ESPN Magazine revealed more interesting details about Radwanska, including the fact that she has no problem going onto the court straight after a full course meal, and the fact that she has a weakness for McDonald’s cheeseburgers.  Another of her vices is cheesecakes from The Cheesecake Factory. “I am proud to say I have tried every single one!” she said in the interview.

The picture which has caused such a furor is fairly tasteful, showing Radwanska sitting forward on a deck chair next to a swimming pool where tennis balls are floating.  The artfully positioned pose reveals nothing that would compromise the tennis star’s dignity.
