NBA Larry Bird’s Son Pleads Guilty in Criminal Recklessness Case
Connor Bird, the 22 year old son of NBA legend, Larry Bird, pleaded guilty to charges of criminal recklessness in a case that stemmed from a 2013 incident on the campus of Indiana University. According to police reports at the time, Bird tried to run his girlfriend down with his car after she got out of the vehicle following an argument between the two. Charges at the time included “battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana.”
At the time, the Star reported on the incident, recalling that in parking lot at the university, the couple “got into another fight, police said, and the girl got out of Bird’s car with the intent of walking back to her home. That’s when, police said, Bird twice tried to hit the woman with his car. Another IU student witnessed the incident, police said, and took the female to the Indiana University Police Department.”
It was learned this week that Bird managed to strike a deal with the prosecutors where he agreed to plead guilty on counts of criminal recklessness in return for having two charges against his dropped.
In exchange for having the main – and more serious – charges dropped against him, Connor Bird has to participate in a sober-living program and he will be monitored by a mentor. Bird Junior will also need to stay out of any trouble for the next year, and any return to his previous behavior will result in a long term jail sentence.
Connor’s famous father, Larry Bird played for the Boston Celtics in the 80s, before retiring from the game in 1992 due to a continuous back issues.
