Shamed Cricket Star Monty Panesar Picked for Ashes Tour Squad

Eyebrows have been raised over whether UK cricket star Monty Panesar deserved to be picked for England’s Ashes Tour squad, considering what many believe to be despicable behavior over the past two months.  Panesar’s infamous ‘moment of glory’ came eight weeks ago after he got so drunk in a Brighton club that he intentionally urinated on bouncers.  As a result, he was thrown out of the club by police and 4 am and subsequently axed by his county, Sussex.

But any chance of sweeping the incident away as a “boys will be boys’ moment went out the window on Saturday, when the media reported that Panesar was given a one match ban from county cricket for “potentially threatening and intimidating a member of the opposition” in a gave against Essex last week.

Panesar seems to have some regrets over the two incidents and swears that he has not had a drink since the Brighton debacle.

He called his selection for the Ashes Tour “an incredible boost I needed as a cricketer and as a person, after a chapter in my life I’m ashamed of.”

“The support I’ve had from everyone has been overwhelming and my only focus now is to repay them for their amazing faith in me,” he added.

Panesar is adamant that he, himself, is to blame for the incident and doesn’t want to hear of anyone else being charged for drunken behavior.

“I wouldn’t want any of my Sussex team-mates out with me on the night to be blamed,” he said. “It was all my fault and I deserved to take the hit alone for it. I’d let myself down, my friends, my family, my county and England team-mates down, as well as the Sikh community in Luton, in Coventry at the temple where I pray, and globally.”
