Colorado Football Players Feed Flood Victims
After the Colorado football team and the Fresno State football team had their game postponed, the Colorado football team chose to make good use of its time. After there had been a historically large amount of rainfall, with flooding, and a minimum of three deaths in Boulder, Colorado, the Colorado college football team decided to help out displaced flood victims and first responders by offering them lunch and a dry place to take time out and gather the strength needed for their next moves.
Before the game was officially delayed, food had already been delivered by the company that handles the concessions. Since the food was already there, the school decided that it could do something useful with it. The stadium club level was opened to the flood victims and to the first responder.
Mike MacIntyre, the team coach, helped his team to serve those who came for a dry space and some food. After the initiative had begun, other students joined in to help. These included students from both the athletic department and other departments.
D.D. Goodson, a wide receiver, commented on the team’s activities for the school’s website. He said: “It’s nice to help these evacuees because I know what they are going through.” Goodson had lost a number of possession when his apartment neded up waist-high in water.
A police officer from the CU Police Department, Matthew DeLaria, noted: “It’s been a really nice break and a nice little diversion for us. It’s nice to see the players and everybody out here working to support the community.”
Colorado and Fresno State are hoping to make up the game but are having a hard time finding a date for the make-up game. It is still unclear whether other teams will move some games around in order to accommodate the two teams, or if it will have to be delayed for quite some time.
Coach MacIntyre said: “We’ll make it up. There are a lot of things happeing on that. The NCAA will jump in. They will make sure. I mean, this is a national disaster. This isn’t just a little thing.”
