Bale Bows to Ronaldo at Real Madrid Press Conference
Gareth Bale, the 24 year old Welshman seems to be acutely aware of dressing room hierarchy in the iconic Real Madrid football club, despite the fact that he holds the record for the largest sum ever paid by a team to have a player transferred to their side. Real Madrid recently paid £85.3 million to see Bale move from Tottenham Spurs to Spain , beating the sum paid for Cristino Ronaldo’s transfer in 2009.
Yet Bale is not allowing this fact to go to his head. Instead, he has shown humility and deference to the Portuguese powerhouse who has managed to score 202 goals in 202 games – an incredible feat on any scale.
At a press conference to celebrate his transfer to his new home, Bale was asked on several occasions about his relationship with Ronaldo, with many speculating that the two would be jostling for the limelight.
Bale replied to these questions by saying: “Cristiano, for me, is the best player in the world. He’s a massive factor in why I wanted to come here. They come no better than him and it’ll be an honor to play with him. We’ll have a great team and we will hopefully win a lot of things together.”
The Welshman made it clear that he knew who stood at the top of the Real Madrid pyramid, despite the fact that he has managed to conduct a record breaking price tag. “Ronaldo is the boss here,” he said. “He’s the main player and the best player in the world. I want to learn off him. I want to help the team.”
Bale’s modesty has already earned him a spot in the hearts of Real Madrid fans, who were treated to photographs of a 12 year old Bale wearing their team’s kit – proof that he has telling the truth when he said that playing for Real has always been a dream of his.
