Big Names – Caesars Cup Teams

Caesars Cup action looks to be the hottest yet as the captains of the two competing teams try to put together the best group of professional players yet.

The tournament is due to take place on Friday, September 25th in London during the long awaited World Series of Poker Europe, and promises to feature the most prominent names in the industry to date.

Team captains, Daneil Negreanu and the Swedish wunderkind, Annette Obrestad have managed to lure top players to their teams, including Jennifer Harman, Illari Sahamies, Patrik Antonius and the legend himself, Doyle Brunson.

Tentative teams are divided this way so far:

Europeans: Annette Obrestad (captain), Darion Mineiri, Peter Eastgate, Bertrand Grospellier, Illari Sahamies and Patrik Antonius.

Americans: Daniel (Negreanu), Phil Hellmuth, John Juanda, Phil Ivey, Jennifer Harman, Doyle Brunson.

The Caesars Cup will be played out in London at the Casino at the Empire, as a made for TV broadcast. Viewers will be able to pick up the action on ESPN on a global level.

The Americans and the Europeans will battle each other out on the green felt in a series of no limit heads up matches, with some interesting elements added to the standard format to ensure that nothing is quite what you’d initially expect it to be!

The first team to score four points is the winner of the Caesars Cup, with each match victory worth a point.

The first set will consist of a doubles competition, where two poker pros from competing sides alternate wagering rounds. The players share decisions in alternate formats, so that one decides on preflop and turn, and the other on flop and river.

In the second set, matches are played as doubles, with each player being responsible for two hands.

If the captains of the two teams are anything to go by, poker enthusiasts are in for a treat during this competition. Negreanu has won over $11.5 million in his stunning profession, while Obrestad, in her very short career, has earned herself 57 cashed and 8 career titles.
