2010 Home Run Derby Prediction:
The 2010 Home Run Derby competition is expected to be exciting and entertaining! This year the slugfest is being played in sunny southern Cali, Anaheim to be exact. Although this year’s participants aren’t quite as power packed as 2009, there should be no shortage of deep long ball homeruns! Get ready to hear “It’s back, back, back, and gone!” by Chris Berman.
As mentioned, a few of the biggest hitters and names won’t be participating in this year’s Home Run Derby contest. It’s unfortunate a few of these players aren’t competing in this entertainment battle of the long ball. The 3 biggest names that won’t be competing this year are the 2009 winner Prince Fielder, and sluggers Ron Howard and Albert Pujols, arguably the 2 best power hitters currently playing in Major League Baseball. To me, the Home Run Derby contest is about growing the game of baseball and entertaining the baseball fans in a one night a year event. Just like the slam dunk contest in basketball, it’s sad to see the big names starting to not participate in these special events.
However, there are still some great power house sluggers competing this year and should be exciting nonetheless. David “Big Poppy” Ortiz will be the fan favorite to win this competition, as goes for the sportsbooks. Although I like Ortiz’s chances, my prediction favors another dynamic player, Matt Holliday. Holliday has been playing great baseball as of late, and this competition he is going to turn it up a notch and win the 2010 Home Run Derby competition.
Prediction:
Matt Holliday
