NYG Cost Bookmakers in 2009 Season

New York Giants Are Costing Bookmakers This NFL Season

Eli Manning’s New York Giants are proving to be quite expensive for the odds makers this NFL season. The New York Giants have traditionally held strong value for bookmakers. They were always held as a reliable and dependable playing side and almost always rated as favorites ahead of games. However, the tables have turned more than once in the recent past. The Giants have played two disappointing games back to back that has cost the bookmakers a hefty sum of money.

The Giants’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was particularly disappointing. Millions were at stake in this game where the Giants were a minor 2 point favorite. The game total was set at 44 by football betting websites. However, the Giants fared miserably and lost 40-17 in a heavily one sided match. In their previous loss to the Arizona Cardinals, bookmakers lost an estimated $8 million. The Eagles loss that happened post the Cardinals only dented their liquidity position further.

The Giants started the game pegged as 2.5 home favorites. However, Eli Manning was intercepted thrice and the team’s defense crumbled. The Giants could never really recover from the halftime score of 30-7 and the game quickly wrapped up.

After three consecutive losses to much lower ranked teams, bookmakers are now wary of placing money on the Giants. One more loss could push the Giants to the middle of the points table and they could reach a point where even the playoffs could seem difficult.
Week 7 at the NFL betting counters was relatively peaceful and threw up few surprises. Teams like Carolina, Miami, Minnesota, St. Louis and Philadelphia delivered winners this week, much to the relief of bookmakers.
