2010 THE PLAYERS Championship Review:
The golf tournament considered the 5th Major has arrived this week, THE PLAYERS Championship. This PGA TOUR event hosts the strongest field in all of golf, the largest prize purse than any other tournament at $9.5 millions, and is televised in over 230 countries world-wide. Sounds like a Major to me!

THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is a Pete Dye masterpiece, with the 3 best finishing holes in all of golf which includes the island green par-3 17th hole. This facility is also home to the PGA TOUR National Headquarters, which helps add that much more excitement to the overall tournament.

There are several great stories going into this week, Rory McIlroy’s win in Charlotte, Phil Mickelson’s continued strong performance with a 2nd place finish last week, and Tiger’s shocking struggle at the Quail Hollow Championship.

If Phil Mickelson wins at THE PLAYERS and Tiger Woods finishes 6th place or worse, Mickelson will be the new #1 professional golfer in the world. The last 4 times Tiger has missed the cut, he has finished no worse than 3rd place in the following week’s PGA TOUR tournament. Guess we will see what happens this week.

My personal opinion of who will win this tournament will have accuracy off the tee, precise iron play, and a phenomenal short game. With that being said, I do like local professional Jim Furyk, Ian Poulter, and red-hot Phil Mickelson. Furyk and Poulter’s game fits this course very well in my opinion, and if Phil can keep it in the fairway I like his chances! Whatever happens, it is going to be a very exciting golf tournament with a memorable finish.
